Alberta reports 364 new cases Monday

Red Deer with 105 active COVID-19 cases

The number of active COVID-19 cases in the city of Red Deer as of Monday is down to 105.

That’s a decrease of three from Sunday and the lowest total the city has had since 94 active cases were reported back on November 16.

Red Deer added eight recoveries over the past day, for a total of 2,761, as the overall number of COVID-19 cases attributed to the city rose by five to 2,899.

The number of deaths in Red Deer stemming from COVID-19 remains 33.

As of Monday there are now just three active cases linked to the COVID-19 outbreak at Olymel, along with 511 recovered and three deaths out of 517 total cases.

Province-wide, Alberta confirmed 364 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday. That’s out of 6,618 tests for a positivity rate of about 5.5 per cent.

The number of active cases in the province is up 114 to 4,811, while recoveries are up 247 to a total of 132,028.

There are 255 Albertans in hospital due to COVID-19, up seven from Sunday, including 42 in intensive care, up four.

Three additional COVID-19 deaths were reported to Alberta Health in the last 24 hours to bring the province’s total to 1,946. The deaths occurred March 13-14.

As of Monday, there have been 985 total variant cases of COVID-19 in the province, 967 of which are the UK variant, 65 more than Sunday.

The province’s COVID-19 R value (reproduction value) for the past week was 1.07.

“We all must redouble our efforts to follow public health measures so we can drive Alberta’s RT value back below one,” cautioned Dr. Deena Hinshaw, Alberta’s chief medical officer of health.
