Search warrant at nuisance property in Red Deer leads to charges

Mar 11, 2021 | 4:45 PM

Charges have been laid following efforts by Red Deer RCMP to tackle various nuisance properties in the city.

The initiative is done in collaboration with the RCMP Crime Reduction Team and the Safer Communities and Neighbourhoods (SCAN) unit of Alberta Sheriffs.

The detachment says recently, a problem property and its tenant were the focus of this work, and on Jan. 14, members executed a search warrant on the home in Grandview and located modified firearms, ammo and drugs.

Adam Bogusky, 36, of Red Deer, faces 14 charges, including seven related to possession of a firearm, two for possession of a loaded firearm, and others.

Bogusky has been released and is scheduled to appear in court April 1.

Police say the home had been the source of many complaints from neighbouring residents. A community safety order now bars the occupants from accessing the property for five years.

“This exemplifies how our two entities work together to stop criminal activity and improve community safety,” says Superintendent Gerald Grobmeier, Red Deer RCMP. “By working together to share information, we enforce the criminal code and SCAN enforces civil legislation. Ultimately, we achieve very positive outcomes for the neighbourhood.”

In a release, Kaycee Madu, Minister of Justice and Solicitor General, adds, “When criminals endanger the safety and well-being of law-abiding Albertans, we must use every tool at our disposal to put a stop to it. This case is a good example of how police and the Alberta Sheriffs can work together to stop criminal activity. Thank you to the SCAN unit and police investigators whose combined efforts will allow residents of this community to take back their neighbourhood and go about their daily lives without fear.”

Three additional properties within Red Deer are currently on the RCMP’s radar.
