A local musician has released a new song he hopes will bring a little comfort and understanding to those struggling through the pandemic.

“Romance in a Pandemic” is a waltz written and recorded by Red Deer’s Lorry Boschman, who says the tune was inspired by the phrase “social distancing.”

“Once the words started to flow it took about an hour,” he explained. “I actually already had the melody in my mind. I added the last stanza about four months later.”

Boschman says the song was recorded at C – Note Studios in Red Deer by Carl Stretton, who Boschman has worked with for roughly 10 years and produced his four other CDs as well.

“Some people are struggling to get by and I thought if I could help out, I would,” said Boschman.

A portion of the proceeds for the song will go to the United Way of Central Alberta.

“It feels great to know that the hard work we do supporting agencies that support our most vulnerable neighbors, is noticed,” says United Way of Central Alberta CEO Brett Speight.

“These funds will go to our community investment fund which is used to fund programs in central Alberta in our three focus areas of income, education and wellness.”

Boschman says there is no set price to purchase the song, noting that it’s simply by donation.

“Most people have thrown in $10.00,” he points out.

“There are costs involved that have to be paid and when that is done, then the extra goes to charity. Albert’s Restaurant, Mom’s Diner, NAPA AUTOPRO – Eastside Auto Service, and the Vinyl Den have copies for sale, and I am looking for other places too.”
