Enough Evidence For Trial?

Preliminary hearing scheduled for man accused of sexual offenses against teen

A preliminary hearing is scheduled to take place this summer for a Red Deer man accused of committing sexual offences against a 15-year-old youth.

Brandon Thomas Conlin, 31, is scheduled to find out on July 29 if his case has enough evidence to go to trial.

Conlin is charged with sexual interference, sexual assault, possession of child pornography, and luring a child.

After receiving a complaint from a concerned parent, a Red Deer RCMP investigation last year determined that a 30-year-old man had allegedly lured and committed sexual offences against a 15-year-old.

The specialized Red Deer RCMP Sex Crime Unit executed a search warrant and arrested the suspect on July 31, 2020.

Police say Red Deer RCMP encourages parents and guardians to discuss internet and cellphone safety with their children. Parents can find information on how to keep their children safe at www.getcybersafe.gc.ca under “Protect Yourself”.

Created in July, 2020, Mounties say the Red Deer Sex Crime Unit works collaboratively with a number of local agencies to provide victim-focused service to survivors of sexual violence.
