Red Deer adds three COVID-19 deaths, active cases down to 362

Red Deer has added three more deaths linked to COVID-19, according to Alberta Health, for a total of 29.

The death of a man in his 40s is linked to the COVID-19 outbreak at Olymel, while the death of a woman in her 70s is linked to the outbreak at Michener Services. Both deaths occurred March 2 with both cases including comorbidities.

A man in his 50s also passed away on March 2. The case also included comorbidities.

The number of active cases in Red Deer continues trending downward and now sits at 362 as of Thursday, a decrease of 47 over the past 24 hours.

There have now been 2,440 recoveries, an increase of 60 as the total number of cases attributed to Red Deer rose by 11 to a total of 2,831.

Alberta Health is reporting 69 active cases linked to the Olymel outbreak as of Thursday, down from 78 yesterday, 444 recovered cases, an increase of nine, and three deaths out of 516 total cases, up one.

Province-wide there were another 331 cases of COVID-19 announced on Thursday. That’s out of 9.483 test results for a positivity rate of 3.5 per cent.

The number of active cases in the province is 4,613, a decrease of 36. Recoveries are up 358 to a total of 128,261.

There are now 245 Albertans in hospital due to COVID-19, down six from Wednesday, including 47 in intensive care, down one.

Nine additional COVID-19 deaths were also reported to Alberta Health in the last 24 hours, including the three in Red Deer, to bring the province’s total to 1,911.

As of Thursday, there have been 531 total variant cases of COVID-19 in the province, an increase of 33 over the past day, including 531 cases of the UK variant. There have been 116 variant cases in Central Zone.

Alberta has administered 266,231 doses of COVID-19 vaccine as of March 3.

The Central Zone has 545 active cases, down 45 from Wednesday, and 30 hospitalizations. Nine people are receiving intensive care for COVID-19 at Red Deer Regional Hospital. The zone has now had 115 COVID-related deaths.
