For the second time in as many months St. Joseph High School in Red Deer has gone to online learning due to the number of COVID-19 cases affecting the school’s population.

A letter to parents dated Feb. 28 says students will be learning at home through March 15 due to the current number of students and staff in quarantine.

The letter also asked both students and parents to limit social contact outside the school whenever possible.

“We continue to remind our school community about the importance of limiting social contact not only while at school, but outside of school hours,” says the letter.

“We are concerned outside interactions could continue to negatively impact our daily school operations. We recognize this has been a long haul, we are praying for ‘normalcy’ to return again.”

The provincial government’s website lists St. Joseph High School as having an outbreak with 10 or more cases. The school was also in online learning from Jan. 25 through Feb. 8.

An outbreak of 10+ cases is also listed for St. Thomas Aquinas School, while outbreaks of 5-9 cases are listed for St. Teresa of Avila School, St. Patrick’s Community School and Lindsay Thurber Comprehensive High School.

Alerts (2-4 cases) are listed for St. Francis of Assisi, Father Henri Voison, G.H. Dawe Community School Ecole Camille J. Lerouge School and Glendale Sciences and Technology School.
