Red Deer with a record 574 active COVID-19 cases

The number of active COVID-19 cases in Red Deer as of Wednesday sits at a record 574, an increase of 15 over Tuesday.

There have been 2,085 recoveries in the city, an increase of 37 as the total number of cases attributed to Red Deer rose by 52 to a total of 2,681.

The number of deaths in Red Deer linked to COVID-19 remains 22, unchanged since Feb. 5.

Alberta confirmed 430 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday.

That’s out of 9,467 test results over the past 24 hours for a positivity rate of about 4.5 per cent.

The number of active cases in the province is up to 4,545, a decrease of 39 from Tuesday. Recoveries are up 388 to a total of 125,622.

There are 307 Albertans in hospital due to COVID-19, down 19 from Tuesday, including 56 in intensive care, up five.

Thirteen additional COVID-19 deaths were reported to Alberta Health in the last 24 hours to bring the province’s total as of Sunday to 1,866. The deaths occurred between Dec. 6 and Feb. 22.

As of Wednesday, there have been 323 total variant cases of COVID-19 in the province, an increase of 22 over the past day, including 316 cases of the UK variant.

Alberta has administered 186,572 doses of COVID-19 vaccine as of Feb. 23.

Alberta Health confirms that as of Wednesday, there are 181 active cases linked to the COVID-19 outbreak at the Olymel pork processing facility in Red Deer, a one-day decrease of nine, along with 296 recoveries.

The Central Zone has 759 active cases as of Wednesday, an increase of 14, with 32 hospitalizations, down three. Ten people are receiving intensive care for COVID-19 at Red Deer Regional Hospital, down two. The zone has had 105 COVID-related deaths, including one reported in the past 24 hours (Jan. 1, a male in his 90s. The case included comorbidities).

Dr. Deena Hinshaw said today on Twitter that her next in-person update will be on Monday (March 1).
