Red Deer down 7 to 559 active COVID-19 cases

Alberta confirmed 267 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday.

That’s out of 6,335 test results over the past 24 hours for a positivity rate of about 4.2 per cent.

The number of active cases in the province is down to 4,516, a decrease of 159 from Monday. Recoveries are up 416 to a total of 125,234.

There are 326 Albertans in hospital due to COVID-19, up two from Monday, including 51 in intensive care, down two.

Ten additional COVID-19 deaths were reported to Alberta Health in the last 24 hours to bring the province’s total as of Tuesday to 1,853. The deaths occurred between Dec. 12 and Feb. 22.

As of Tuesday, there have been 301 total variant cases of COVID-19 in the province, an increase of 12 over the past day, including 294 cases of the UK variant.

Alberta has administered 180,755 doses of COVID-19 vaccine as of Feb. 22. More than 107,000 Albertans have received at least one dose, including over 73,000 that are fully immunized with two doses.

The number of active COVID-19 cases in Red Deer as of Tuesday sits at 559, down six from Monday’s record total of 565. There have been 2,048 recoveries, an increase of 28 as the total number of cases attributed to Red Deer rose by 22 to a total of 2,629. The number of deaths in Red Deer linked to COVID-19 remains 22, unchanged since Feb. 5.

Alberta Health confirms that as of Tuesday, there are 190 active cases linked to the COVID-19 outbreak at the Olymel pork processing facility in Red Deer, a one-day decrease of 15, along with 274 recoveries. Total cases stemming from the outbreak sit at 465, an increase of 20, including one death.

The Central Zone has 745 active cases as of Tuesday, a decrease of 15, with 34 hospitalizations, down one. Seven people are receiving intensive care for COVID-19 at Red Deer Regional Hospital, down two. The zone has had 104 COVID-related deaths, none of which were reported in the past 24 hours.

Currently, 231 Alberta schools, about 10 per cent, are on alert or have outbreaks, with 846 cases in total. There are 172 schools on alert, with 373 total cases. Outbreaks are declared in 59 schools, with a total of 473 cases. The province says in-school transmission has likely occurred in 144 schools. Of these, 88 have had only one new case occur as a result.

As of Tuesday, COVID-19 alerts or outbreaks are in effect for the following Red Deer schools.
