Feb 20, 2021 | 10:01 AM

This year, due to current provincial limitations on indoor public gatherings, the Town of Innisfail will not be hosting its annual Awards Gala. Although unable to host a public event, the Town will move ahead to publicly acknowledge the actions of those citizens who have been recognized as outstanding by their peers.

Town staff accepted nominations for the 2020 awards through an online nomination process throughout the latter part of 2020. After receiving numerous submissions, the Town is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2020 Community Awards as follows:

Award Category Recipient

Coach Recognition
Jon Weddell

Female Athlete of the Year
Sarah Gette

Male Athlete of the Year
Kyle Baumgardt

Sports Team of the Year
Innisfail Atom B Flyers

Leaders of Tomorrow
Samantha Olson

Community Arts & Culture
Devin Cooper

Citizen of the Year
Brent Jackson

The Town will commemorate the achievements of this year’s award recipients at two upcoming Regular Meetings of Council, scheduled for February 22 and March 8.

“Each year, we take the opportunity to celebrate those individuals who have exceeded the expectations of their fellow citizens,” said Mayor Jim Romane. “This year should be no different, so we are pleased to have the chance to celebrate this year’s award recipients with the community.”

The public is invited to view the award presentations online through a live stream available through the Town’s website. Access to the stream will be provided via Zoom.
