Team Canada painting fundraiser assists local charities

Feb 17, 2021 | 3:05 PM

Last November, Tourism Red Deer and the Red Deer & District Chamber of Commerce joined forces to help Team Canada’s world junior players and staff during their COVID-19 isolation.

They rallied together with local sponsors, restaurants, businesses, to create a welcome to Red Deer package. Due to their isolation the team couldn’t experience our region, so Red Deer was brought to them.

From local eats, some movie treats to a “Bob Ross inspired paint night” in hopes to fill some of that quiet time inside a hotel room. With team approval, the paintings were auctioned off to help local charities during this tough time.

The auction raised $10,660.

On Tuesday, Tourism Red Deer and the Red Deer & District Chamber of Commerce delivered donations to the following charities:

Red Deer & District Community Foundation – Youth in Philanthropy Program $2,020

Youth HQ – Youth programming – $2,020

KidSport Red Deer – to help local youth with membership fees – $2,020

Jayda’s Cupcake Fundraiser for the Central Alberta Humane Society – $1,010

Special Olympics Red Deer – Programming/membership – $1,010

Golden Circle – to continue a painting initiative that started this fundraiser – $560

Another $2,020 will be donated to another local charitable organization, with an announcement coming soon.
