Alberta sees slight rise in COVID-19 hospitalizations, Red Deer with 428 active cases

Alberta confirmed 251 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday.

That’s out of 5,389 test results over the past 24 hours for a positivity rate of about 4.7 per cent.

The number of active cases in the province is up to 5,222, an increase of five from Sunday. Recoveries are up 242 to a total of 122,071.

There are 356 Albertans in hospital due to COVID-19, up four from Sunday, including 58 in intensive care, up two.

Two additional COVID-19 deaths were reported to Alberta Health in the last 24 hours to bring the province’s total as of Monday to 1,782.

The number of active COVID-19 cases in Red Deer as of Monday has risen to 428, up 19 from Sunday. There have been 1,855 recoveries, an increase of nine as the total number of cases attributed to Red Deer rose by 43 to a total of 2,305. The number of deaths in Red Deer because of COVID-19 remains 22.

Alberta Health confirms that as of Monday there are 192 active cases linked to the COVID-19 outbreak at the Olymel pork processing facility in Red Deer. Total confirmed cases stemming from the outbreak sit at 326. There has been one death as a result of the outbreak.

The Central Zone has 706 active cases as of Monday, an increase of 28, with 29 hospitalizations. Four people are receiving intensive care for COVID-19 at Red Deer Regional Hospital, unchanged from Sunday. The zone has had 101 deaths as a result of COVID-19, none of which were reported in the last 24 hours.

Dr. Deena Hinshaw, Alberta’s chief medical officer of health, will give her next update on Tuesday.
