Red Deer seniors’ ‘shop local’ campaign wraps up

The Hamlets at Deer Park has wrapped up its latest ‘Spread the Love’ campaign.

The campaign ran Feb. 1-12 and was designed to encourage shopping local, meanwhile collecting items for the Red Deer Food Bank.

Seventeen local businesses donated $997 worth of gift cards and products for a ‘Shop Local’ gift basket, and to enter you needed to bring by four non-perishable food items for the food bank.

“The Hamlets at Deer Park’s residents remain active members in our community by supporting events and initiatives that are geared at giving back to the citizens of Red Deer and our surrounding communities,” says Jaime Riggins, Community Relations Coordinator at The Hamlets.

Riggins said residents were very happy to help encourage Red Deerians to shop local during what is a trying time for small businesses, in particular.

The winner of the gift basket, as drawn by Mayor Tara Veer on Friday, is Nancy Ramsay. Alice Kolisnyk, Deputy Director of the Red Deer Food Bank, was also on hand to collect the donations.
