Red Deer with 363 active COVID-19 cases, Alberta hospitalizations down again

Alberta confirmed 305 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday.

That’s out of 8,070 test results over the past 24 hours for a positivity rate of about 3.8 per cent.

The number of active cases in the province is down to 5,271, a decrease of 136 from Friday. Recoveries are up 436 to a total of 121,494.

There are 359 Albertans in hospital due to COVID-19, down 12 from Friday, including 64 in intensive care, down two.

Fifteen additional COVID-19 deaths were reported to Alberta Health in the last 24 hours to bring the province’s total as of Saturday to 1,775.

As of Friday, there were 171 total variant cases of COVID-19 in the province. Those figures are only updated on weekdays.

The number of active COVID-19 cases in Red Deer as of Saturday sits at 363, up 18 from Friday. Since active cases in the City bottomed out at 158 on Jan. 24, they’ve increased more than 129 per cent.

There have been 1,836 recoveries in Red Deer, an increase of 13 as the total number of cases attributed to the city rose by 31 to a total of 2,221. The number of deaths in Red Deer because of COVID-19 remains 22.

Alberta Health confirms that as of Saturday there are 188 active cases linked to the COVID-19 outbreak at the Olymel pork processing facility in Red Deer, an increase of 20 from Friday. There has been one death as a result of the outbreak. Not all cases from the outbreak are necessarily attributable to Red Deer as a case would be categorized by a worker’s home municipality.

The Central Zone has 659 active cases as of Saturday, a decrease of 34, with 27 hospitalizations, down three. Four people are receiving intensive care for COVID-19 at Red Deer Regional Hospital, down one. The zone has had 101 deaths as a result of COVID-19, none of which were reported in the last 24 hours.
