Red Deer with 345 active COVID-19 cases, Alberta hospitalizations down again

Alberta confirmed 314 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday.

That’s out of 8,410 test results over the past 24 hours for a positivity rate of about 3.7 per cent.

The number of active cases in the province is down to 5,407 a decrease of 94 from Thursday. Recoveries are up 390 to a total of 121,068.

There are 371 Albertans in hospital due to COVID-19, down 18 from Thursday, including 66 in intensive care, down five.

Sixteen additional COVID-19 deaths were reported to Alberta Health in the last 24 hours to bring the province’s total as of Friday to 1,760.

There are 15 new cases of the B117 (U.K.) variant reported in the province and no new cases of the B1351 (South Africa) variant, bringing the combined total to 171.

The number of active COVID-19 cases in Red Deer as of Thursday sits at 345, up 19 from Thursday. There have been 1,823 recoveries, an increase of 21 as the total number of cases attributed to Red Deer rose by 30 to a total of 2,190. The number of deaths in Red Deer because of COVID-19 remains 22.

Alberta Health confirms that as of Friday there are 168 active cases linked to the COVID-19 outbreak at the Olymel pork processing facility in Red Deer, an increase of five, along with 112 recoveries, up 10. Total cases stemming from the outbreak sit at 281, an increase of 15. There has been one death as a result of the outbreak.

The Central Zone has 693 active cases as of Friday, an increase of 14, with 30 hospitalizations. Five people are receiving intensive care for COVID-19 at Red Deer Regional Hospital, unchanged from Thursday. The zone has had 101 deaths as a result of COVID-19, none of which were reported in the last 24 hours.
