Outdoor fun to be had in Ponoka for Family Day

Family Day is a great opportunity to get outside with your family and enjoy all that Ponoka has to offer!

There are a growing number of outdoor skating opportunities in Ponoka this winter! The Downtown Skating Plaza, Centennial Park Ice Skating Trail and Outdoor Rink (ODR) at the Ponoka Arena Complex all have ice surfaces for citizens to enjoy.

Town staff have set up hockey nets at the ODR for citizens to grab their sticks and pucks and play shinny. The Downtown Skating Plaza and Ice Skating Trail are available for public skating only. Hockey sticks and pucks are not permitted at these locations. The Downtown Skating Plaza features straw bales and picnic tables for seating, and a fire pit on designated days for warming your hands. The fire pit will be lit from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Fridays, pending weather conditions, and on Family Day. The fire pit at the Skating Plaza is to be lit and operated by Town staff only.

Ponoka offers a number of other outdoor recreation opportunities that can be enjoyed on Family Day and all winter long, including:

– 10 km of walking trails in the Battle River Valley;

– Walking paths throughout the Town’s park system; and

– Tobogganing at the Tom Hamilton Memorial Hill.

Cross country skiing will also be available at the Ponoka Golf course once it’s warm enough to set the trails.
