Red Deer with 281 active COVID-19 cases

Alberta confirmed 195 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday.

That’s out of 7003 test results over the past 24 hours for a positivity rate of about 3.2 per cent.

The number of active cases in the province is down to 5,831 a decrease of 411 from Monday. Recoveries are up 1,294 to a total of 119,678.

An additional variant case of COVID-19 has been identified in the province for a total of 104. Of these, 97 have been the strain first identified in the UK and seven have been the strain first identified in South Africa.

There are 427 Albertans in hospital due to COVID-19, down five from Monday, including 78 in intensive care, up two.

There have been 12 additional COVID-19 deaths reported to Alberta Health in the last 24 hours, which brings the province’s total as of Tuesday to 1,722.

Alberta has administered 124,325 doses of COVID-19 vaccine. More than 32,700 Albertans have now received two doses and are fully inoculated.

The number of active COVID-19 cases in Red Deer as of Tuesday sits at 281, up five from Monday. There have been 1,783 recoveries, an increase of 41 as the total number of cases attributed to Red Deer rose by 46 to a total of 2,086. The number of deaths in Red Deer because of COVID-19 remains 22.

Alberta Health confirms that as of Tuesday there are 135 active cases linked to the COVID-19 outbreak at the Olymel pork processing facility in Red Deer, an increase of nine.

The Central Zone has 656 active cases as of Tuesday, a decrease of 33, with 32 hospitalizations, which is a decrease of one. Five people are receiving intensive care for COVID-19 at Red Deer Regional Hospital, up one from Monday. The zone has had 99 deaths as a result of COVID-19, including two that were reported over the past 24 hours. Both of them – a woman in her 20s and a woman in her 70s – occurred on February 5. In both cases comorbidities are unknown at this time.

Currently, 315 Alberta schools, about 13 per cent, are on alert or have outbreaks, with 866 cases in total. There are 272 schools on alert, with 513 total cases. Outbreaks (10 or more cases) are declared in 43 schools, with a total of 353 cases. In-school transmission has likely occurred in 77 schools. Of these, 61 have had only one new case occur as a result.
