Season officially done for Red Deer Minor Hockey

Red Deer Minor Hockey has officially pulled the plug on its 2020-21 season.

It was announced by Hockey Alberta earlier this week that associated leagues would need to conclude play.

“Our staff will be working to refund all participants over the coming week and ask for your patience and understanding,” a letter from the league’s executive reads. “It will take some time to process all registration refunds, but we will work as quickly as possible. The Red Deer Minor Board of Directors have voted to cover a portion of the expenses associated with the season and will not be passing any administration costs, league fees or team fees on to our membership.”

Red Deer Minor says members will only be responsible to pay for services received, and that everyone will see a refund in excess of 80 per cent.

Participants in other Hockey Canada and Hockey Alberta programs will also be contacted about refunds or balances owing.

“Red Deer Minor Hockey will look to offer Development Programming into March, should Alberta Health restrictions around indoor youth sport be modified. We believe that we can offer a safe environment for Hockey Training,” the association adds. “We also wish to remind everyone that there continues to be options for outdoor activity and team training for up to 10 people (including adults) and that one on one training options will be available starting Monday, February 8.”

The Alberta Elite Hockey League, which includes AAA teams at the U15, U16 and U18 levels under the Red Deer Minor Hockey umbrella, did begin play in the fall, but had to halt after a couple weeks’ worth of games.
