Extreme cold warning in effect for Red Deer and area

Feb 5, 2021 | 4:42 PM

Meteorologists with Environment and Climate Change Canada have issued an Extreme Cold Warning for many areas of Alberta, including Red Deer and the surrounding region.

Officials say a multi-day episode of very cold wind chills is expected.

Extremely cold windchill values between minus 40 to 50 will occur Friday night with extreme cold conditions persisting into next week.

Residents are encouraged to watch for cold related symptoms: shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness and colour change in fingers and toes.

It’s also noted that if it’s too cold for you to stay outside, it’s too cold for your pet to stay outside.

Outdoor workers are reminded to take regularly scheduled breaks to warm up.
