Red Deer’s active COVID-19 case count up by 11, one more death

Alberta confirmed 259 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday.

That’s out of 6,837 test results over the past 24 hours for a positivity rate of about 3.5 per cent.

The number of active cases in the province is down to 6,599, a decrease of 313 from Tuesday. Recoveries are up 561 to a total of 116,820.

There are 539 Albertans in hospital due to COVID-19 as of Wednesday, a decrease of 17, including 94 in intensive care, down three.

Another 11 deaths were reported in the past 24 hours to bring Alberta’s total from COVID-19 to 1,671.

Alberta has administered 109,341 doses of COVID-19 vaccine, with 18,970 Albertans now received two doses and fully inoculated.

The number of active COVID-19 cases in Red Deer as of Wednesday sits at 196, an increase of 11 from Tuesday. There have been 1,693 recoveries, an increase of three as the total number of cases attributed to Red Deer rose by 15 to a total of 1,909.

An additional death from COVID-19 was reported for Red Deer on Wednesday – a man in his 80s who passed away Dec. 17, 2020 (case included comorbidities) – death for a total of 20.

Red Deer County has 19 active cases, same as Tuesday, while Sylvan Lake remains with 33.

Lacombe County has 27 active cases, a decrease of two, and the city of Lacombe has 15, an increase of two.

Clearwater County (Rocky Mountain House) has 44 active cases as of Wednesday, a decrease of 10.

The active case count in Ponoka County sits at 105, down two over the past 24 hours.

Mountain View County has 10 active cases, Olds has four, Kneehill County has two active cases and Stettler and County has five – a decrease of one in each municipality.

The Central Zone has 631 active cases as of Wednesday, a decrease of 14, with 46 hospitalizations, a decrease of three. Five people are receiving intensive care for COVID-19 at Red Deer Regional Hospital.

The zone has had 92 deaths as a result of COVID-19, three of which were reported in the past 24 hours.

Currently, 307 schools, about 13 per cent, are on alert or have outbreaks, with 746 cases in total. 278 schools are on alert, with 507 total cases. Outbreaks are declared in 29 schools, with a total of 239 cases. In-school transmission has likely occurred in 69 schools. Of these, 54 have had only one new case occur as a result.
