Red Deer’s active case count creeps up for sixth straight day

Alberta is reporting 383 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday.

With 647 more recoveries, active cases drop 275 to 7,530.

With 10,377 tests done in the last day, today’s positivity rate drops by about nine-tenths of a percentage point to 3.7 per cent.

There are 582 people in hospital, down 12, and 103 in ICU, down seven.

There were also 11 more deaths tallied, which occurred between Jan. 24 and 29.

In total, 105,752 people have received at least one dose of vaccine, with 15,648 having received two. There have been 41 adverse events.

Meantime, Red Deer went up five to 179 active cases, with 14 new cases reported.

Saturday marks the sixth straight day Red Deer’s active case count has gone up, with 93 new cases added since Jan. 24. The current active case count is the highest it’s been since there were 184 on Jan. 18.

The city sits at 19 deaths, its latest reported Friday involving a male in his 30s with no known co-morbidities.

As for Central Zone, there are 24 active cases in Red Deer County, down two, and 30 in Sylvan Lake, up three.

Lacombe County now has 32 active cases, up one, and there are 24 in the city of Lacombe, up one.

Ponoka County has 123 active cases, a decrease of 29.

Clearwater County has 56 active cases, while Brazeau County has six.

Mountain View County has 13, down four, Olds has five, up one, there are four in Kneehill County, the same as yesterday, and five in County of Stettler, up one.

Central Zone as a whole added 37 new cases in the last day. Active cases sit at 666, down 26. There are 46 people in hospital, up one, and seven in ICU, which is steady. There have been 87 deaths, though none reported Saturday.
