(City of Red Deer)
Public Health Restrictions Continue

Red Deer recreation and culture facilities remain closed

Jan 28, 2021 | 5:31 PM

City officials say Red Deer’s recreation and culture facilities will remain closed until an update is provided by the provincial government.

On Jan. 21, the provincial government acknowledged the current public health restrictions that have been in place since Dec. 13, 2020 would remain in effect.

Due to the continued uncertainty surrounding public health measures, winter programming and registration has once again been delayed. At this point, a definitive date for reopening cannot be confirmed.

As a result of the extended closure, facility rentals and group bookings for the upcoming week have been cancelled. Currently, the cancellations will be made for those bookings up to and including Feb. 7. Further cancellations will be revisited if necessary based on the continuation of public health restrictions.

When the Alberta government indicates it is safe to reopen recreation and culture facilities, officials say The City will do so. Until then, City officials encourage you to keep moving and enjoy the great outdoors.

Options that continue to be available to Red Deerians are:

• Activity Reservations at the Ice Oval at Setters Place at Great Chief Park
• Outdoor skating – There are over 77 outdoor rinks in the community
• Virtual Fitness – from combo classes and yoga to family fit, City officials say you’re sure to find something of interest
