Jason Alderson resigns seat on Rocky town council

Jan 28, 2021 | 11:18 AM

Jason Alderson has announced his resignation from Rocky Mountain House town council.

In a Facebook post on Jan. 27, Alderson shared the news, stating that he will be moving with his family to Manitoba to, “pursue new adventures.”

“It’s been a great honour to serve such a wonderful community for the past 5.5 years and I am proud of all that was accomplished between the 2 councils I worked with.”

Alderson was first elected to council in a 2015 by-election, and was re-elected in the 2017 General Municipal Election.

Many responded to his post wishing him well, some referring to him as a voice of reason.

Chelsea Alderson, his spouse, also noted that the resignation comes because he is putting family first.

She noted that they had experienced significant changes due to her losing employment and were moving out of province to pursue other opportunities.

In a statement, the Town of Rocky Mountain House confirmed that it has accepted Alderson’s resignation.

As the next municipal election will be held October 18, 2021, there will not be a by-election to fill the vacant seat.

None of council’s six remaining members, including Mayor Tammy Burke, and councillors Dave Auld, Randy Brown, Merrin Fraser, Michelle Narang, and Len Phillips, have said whether they plan to seek re-election in the fall.

Councillor Narang did say she’d like to focus on what’s left of this term, adding that she hasn’t had time to think about another potential campaign.

Phillips said although it is a large time commitment, he has loved serving the community and will have more to say in the summer.

Said Auld: “Ask me again in September.”

Fraser Commented that “There are projects I would like the chance to finish.” Also mentioning that she to was unsure whether or not she would run again.

Brown could not be reached for comment.
