Gasoline Alley Farmers’ Market celebrates early success

Jan 26, 2021 | 11:33 AM

Management with the Gasoline Alley Farmers’ Market says they’ve received strong support from the community since opening in November.

They say the support has been so overwhelming that they are now open with expanded hours every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“We are so thankful that the community has embraced the market as their new local community grocery store,” says General Manager Shauna Fisher.

“Without your support, this market simply wouldn’t exist. We’re already recognizing familiar faces week after week. We’re looking forward to seeing what 2021 holds for the market.”

Among the offerings at the market are fresh bread and baking, fresh fruits and vegetables, meats, cheeses, takeout food as well as artisan jewellery and bath and body products.

All of the businesses at the market are from Central Alberta and for many vendors it’s is their first physical location. For others, the market is a part of their expansion plans.

“The pandemic hit my business hard, and I knew the only way to survive was to put myself out there. I’m so thankful for everything this market has brought to me, and so lucky to be doing so well,” says Jessica Blonski of Lacombe-based Reborn Baking. The farmers’ market is Blonski’s first storefront location after doing business primarily through Facebook.

The market is finalizing construction on the north end of the building, dubbed The Market Kitchen. This area is currently open to the public during market days for anyone who wants to look around. Set to open soon, The Market Kitchen will consist of a number of small restaurants and Craft Beer Commonwealth – Red Deer’s newest brewery.

The Gasoline Alley Farmers’ Market is located on 558 Laura Avenue. Management says they have implemented all Alberta Health Services COVID-19 protocols so everyone can have a safe and enjoyable experience.
