One Day. One Ticket. One Child. 1301 Reasons.

Central Alberta Child Advocacy Centre ‘One Day Challenge’ exceeds goal

Jan 25, 2021 | 10:24 AM

On Thursday, January 21, the Central Alberta Child Advocacy Centre held its third One Day Challenge – an initiative to recognize the courageous children supported by the centre by selling the same number of lottery ticket packages as children served.

This year’s One Day Challenge goal was to 1301 ticket packages, and they did just that and more, selling a totak of 1535 ticket packages.

Officials say that though a very successful day numbers-wise, it was the reason behind the one-day event that was most important to the advocacy centre – and they were reminded of that throughout the day as personal stories and messages came in.

“The morning of the challenge we received a powerful message from a parent whose child was supported by the CACAC, letting us know how appreciative they were that we existed and that they would be buying a ticket package in honor of them,” shared Alyssa Barthel, Director of Communications & Community Awareness. “That message ignited a fire in all of us and was a driving force to achieve this goal for the kids. They are our why.”

“(Thursday’s) event was a remarkable display of community; everyone was so willing to help us reach our goal and stand up for the kids,” said Mark Jones, CEO.

“At the end of the day, it’s going to be a great thing for someone to win this money – but we think the real winners are the thousands of children and youth who we will be able to support, all thanks to the generosity of our local community.”

There’s still time to purchase ticket packages as the CACAC 50/50 Cash Lottery Deadline is January 31st. Ticket packages start at $10 with some select packages already sold out.
