Jan 22, 2021 | 2:08 PM

A man from the Louis Bull First Nation is facing multiple charges following the abduction of a woman from the Cree Nation community of Pigeon Lake this week.

Maskwacis RCMP say it began on Jan. 19, at approximately 11:00 p.m., when Mounties were dispatched to the community after learning an adult female had been abducted from a residence.

Police searched throughout the night for the suspect vehicle, and in the early morning hours, were dispatched to a commercial business after a witness located a female with life threatening injuries.

Officers and EMS are said to have responded to the area immediately, and confirmed the female was the abducted victim from earlier in the evening. RCMP say the victim was transported to a local area hospital for treatment; where she remains in serious condition.

At approximately 8:00 a.m. on Jan. 20, Maskwacis RCMP located and stopped the suspect vehicle. The suspect fled into a wooded area but was apprehended after a brief foot pursuit.

At this time, Maskwacis General Investigative Section (GIS), along with assistance from Red Deer Forensic Identification Services (FIS), are continuing the investigation.

Lionel Twins, 60, is charged with attempted murder, kidnapping without a firearm, aggravated assault, flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, resisting arrest, and two counts of assault.

Twins was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in Wetaskiwin Provincial Court on Jan. 28 at 9:30 a.m.

As this matter is now before the courts and the investigation is still ongoing, police say no further information will be provided at this time.
