Red Deer Transit increasing frequency and hours

The City of Red Deer says Red Deer Transit riders will see increased frequency and hours of service starting Wednesday, January 20.

The City says Red Deer Transit will offer increased service levels as most conventional service routes shift to 30-minute frequencies, operating from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Saturday, with the Gaetz Avenue Rapid Bus and Dynamic Shuttle Service continuing service from 8 p.m. until midnight.

“As students return to in person learning, we have seen an increase in ridership and a need for more frequent service around the city,” said Trever Sparrow, Superintendent Conventional Services. “We are confident the new schedule will offer improved service while managing within our difficult fiscal reality posed by the pandemic.”

Effective January 20, transit route frequency and hours of operation will be as follows:

• Route 1, the Gaetz Avenue Rapid Bus, will operate on a 30-minute frequency throughout the day, with service from 6 a.m. to midnight.
• Routes 2, 3 and 4 will operate on a 30-minute frequency from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
• Routes 10, 11, 13, 15 and 16 will offer 30-minute frequency during peak hours and one-hour frequency at other times from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
• Schedules for Route 12 to Gasoline Alley, Routes 18 and 19 to industrial areas, and Routes 103 and 104 offering Regional 2A service, remain unchanged.
• Dynamic shuttle service will continue to transport riders from Sorensen Station to bus stops around the City from 8 p.m. to midnight.
• Action Bus trips will be limited to bookings for essential travel for medical appointments, work, education and grocery shopping only.

Sunday service will remain unchanged. Transit riders will be able to view the updated schedules on Tuesday at www.reddeer.ca/transit.

“We are confident the increased frequency and longer hours will not only improve accessibility, but challenges with transfer and wait times should be improved as well,” said Sparrow. “As always, we encourage riders to reach out with any issues or concerns about the service, and we will do our best to address them.”

Masks continue to be mandatory for all transit users, and riders are reminded to practice safe physical distancing while waiting at bus stops.
