AHS provides education and support with online health workshops

RED DEER —Alberta Health Services (AHS) is inviting local individuals to attend health information workshops that are helping Albertans make positive adjustments to their lifestyles.

The workshops are offered as part of the Alberta Healthy Living Program (AHLP), an AHS initiative designed to promote healthy living and provide easy access to helpful information. AHLP workshops cover a range of information, including heart health, stress management, nutrition, diabetes care and chronic illness management.

The classes are offered online in accordance with public health guidelines on physical distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic.

All AHLP sessions are led by AHS professionals who share their expertise in group discussions and provide support and encouragement to participants. Each online workshop is free of charge.

Upcoming Zoom workshops include:

• Minding Stress (two sessions)

Discover ways to effectively reduce and manage stress in daily life, learn about the hidden costs of stress and explore causes.

Jan. 26 and Feb. 2 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

• Heart Wise (two sessions)

Learn about high blood pressure, cholesterol and heart healthy nutrition.

Feb. 3 and 10 from 9:30 a.m. to noon.

• Better Choices, Better Health (six sessions)

A self-management workshop to gain confidence and develop skills to overcome the physical and emotional challenges of living with a long-term health condition.

Feb. 3, 10, 17, 24 and March 3 &10 from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

• Diabetes The Basics (four sessions)

Learn how to better manage Type 2 diabetes and pre-diabetes. For those newly diagnosed or wanting an update.

Feb. 4, 11, 18 and 25 from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Feb. 9, 16, 23 and March 2 from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

• Eating Well for Weight and Health

Learn about what, when, why and how much you eat affects your weight and health.

Jan. 19 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Feb. 4 and 11 from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

• Nutrition: The 4 Ps of Meal Planning (two sessions)

Learn tips on how to put your nutrition knowledge into practice with the 4 P’s: Plan, Purchase, Prepare and Pack.

Feb. 9 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

March 4 from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
