On Thursday, January 7, the Canada Post office in Rocky Mountain House had to temporarily close its doors due to one of its employees testing positive for COVID-19.

Valérie Chartrand, Canada Post Media Relations stated that the employee last worked on Tuesday, January 5.

“While at work, the employee followed our physical distancing measures and wore personal protective equipment,” she said.

Chartrand noted that all employees are required to do a self-assessment before arriving at work.

After the Canada Post was made of aware of the positive test, Chartrand says they notified fellow employees and supported all contact tracing.

The post office remained closed while a full sanitization of the area took place.

Valérie Chartrand reiterated that, “The delivery of the mail has not been affected by the post office closure.”

The retail counter at the post office had been closed Thursday afternoon and Friday, but has since reopened as of Monday, January 11.

Chartrand commented that Canada Post understands that while operating during COVID-19, there can be concerns for employees.

“That’s why, since the beginning, we’ve committed to closely following the advice of public health officials at the national and local level in order to keep the employees and the people they serve safe.”
