COVID restrictions delay court proceedings for Sylvan Lake man charged in wife’s death

The inability to transport Alberta’s prison inmates due to COVID-19 restrictions has led to the postponement of a Sylvan Lake man’s sentencing in the death of his wife.

Satnam Singh Sandhu, 42, was expected to enter a guilty plea in a Red Deer courtroom Tuesday morning and be sentenced for the death of 36-year-old Kulvinder Sandhu.

However, his lawyer, Dan Murphy, requested an adjournment as his client cannot be transported at this time and is required to be present to enter his plea and for sentencing.

Sandhu, who remains in custody at Edmonton Remand Centre (ERC), was originally charged with second-degree murder but now faces one count of manslaughter.
