Red Deer hits 10 deaths from COVID-19

Ten people in Red Deer have now died because of COVID-19.

The latest death was reported on Sunday and is one of just 12 more fatalities reported province-wide for a pandemic total of 1,284. The dozen deaths occurred between Jan. 1-9, but were recorded in the past day.

Red Deer also added 12 new cases of coronavirus for a grand total of 1,619.

Recoveries in the city total 1,367, up 33, knocking active cases down to 242, the lowest active case count since Nov. 30.

Provincially, 811 new cases were reported Sunday. With another 1,120 people recovering, the active caseload went back down by 321 to 14,116.

There are 794 people in hospital, down 33, and 128 Albertans in ICU, down four.

The positivity rate for the day is 6.6 per cent, down half a percentage point.

Alberta Health also notes it administered 2,661 more doses of vaccine, which is less than the 4,647 over the previous 24 hours.

In total, 44,994 doses have been given, or 1017.5 per 100,000 people. Seven “adverse events” have taken place following immunizations.

Around the Central Zone, there are 51 active cases in Red Deer county, down five, and 39 in Sylvan Lake, down five.

In Lacombe County, there are 32, down five, and the city of Lacombe has 42, down two.

Ponoka County has 514 active cases, a decrease of 22.

Mountain View County has 28, the same as Saturday, Olds has 34, down five, there are 12 in Kneehill County, which is level with a day ago, and County of Stettler has six, down one.

Clearwater County, which includes Rocky Mountain House has 60 active cases.

In total, the zone has had 7,724 confirmed cases. Active cases are down 79 to 1,498. There are 81 people hospitalized and 17 in ICU. Fifty-six people from the zone have died, an increase of one.
