100 Kids Who Care hoping to support various charities in 2021

Jan 10, 2021 | 6:15 PM

Despite the pandemic, 100 Kids Who Care Red Deer had a successful 2020 and are raring to go for 2021.

Community Outreach Coordinator Kate Harris notes the group hosted an individual activity in support of The Mustard Seed’s Bowls for Bellies event.

“The Mustard Seed approached us with a request to help with the painting of their bowls. Typically bowls are painted at an in-person event, and then sold with a ticket to their Bowls for Bellies,” Harris explains.

“Local restaurants donate time and meals to fill the hand-painted bowls. We were able to reach out to our community and paint over 100 bowls for their event (which was eventually postponed). Families also donated $10 to The Mustard Seed.”

100 Kids, which operates much like 100 Women and 100 Men groups where individuals come together to collectively donate their time and money toward various causes, had strong turn-out in 2020 as well. Numbers were slightly down in comparison to in-person events, Harris notes.

“100 Kids Who Care is truly an incredible initiative, and we feel that kids really thrive in an in-person setting,” she says. “That being said, our members are incredible, and they were pleased to support The Mustard Seed in any way.”

Harris adds that while 100 Kids is not likely to be able to meet in a large group setting again for some time, a special event is in the works to support various local charities this year, as is the norm.
