Red Deer down five to 252 active COVID-19 cases

Alberta reported another 968 cases of COVID-19 on Thursday.

That’s out of 14,833 test results over the past 24 hours for a positivity rate of 6.5 per cent.

There are now 13,298 active cases in Alberta, down 152 from Wednesday.

The province reported another 1,096 recoveries on Thursday to bring Alberta’s total to 93,954.

The number of Albertans currently hospitalized due to COVID-19 is 871, a decrease of 40. That includes 139 people in intensive care, a decrease of two.

Another 24 deaths from COVID-19 were reported Thursday to bring Alberta’s total to 1,217.

In Red Deer, the number of active cases as of Thursday sits at 252, down five from Wednesday. There have been 1,319 recoveries, an increase of 16, as the total number of COVID-19 cases attributed to the city rose by 11 to 1,579.

Red Deer County has 56 active cases of COVID-19 as of Thursday, a decrease of six, while Sylvan Lake has 36, an increase of one.

There are 39 active cases in Clearwater County (Rocky Mountain House), an increase of four.

Lacombe County has 34 active cases, a decrease of four, and the city of Lacombe has 42, down one.

Ponoka County saw its active case count go from 457 on Wednesday to 428 on Thursday, a decrease of 29.

Mountain View County has 33 active cases, down two, Olds has 37, also down two, and Kneehill County is up one to 11. The County of Stettler has six active cases, a decrease of three.

The Central Zone as a whole has 1,381 active cases as of Thursday, a decrease of 37, and 92 hospitalizations, a decrease of five, including 17 who remain in intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital.

There have been 50 deaths in the zone from COVID-19 including one reported on Thursday – a man in his 50s who passed away on Jan. 5. Comorbidities are unknown at this time.
