Sylvan Lake RCMP investigating fatal collision

RCMP are investigating a two-vehicle collision that claimed the life of a 28-year-old Red Deer man on New Year’s Day.

At 10:39 p.m. on Jan. 1, Sylvan Lake RCMP responded with emergency services to a head-on crash at Highway 11 and Range Road 23.

Police say the preliminary investigation shows that an eastbound truck and a westbound truck appear to have collided in the eastbound lane.

Mounties say both drivers were transported to hospital where the driver of the westbound truck was pronounced deceased.

The other driver, a 21-year-old male from Red Deer suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The RCMP collision analyst attended to conduct an examination and the investigation remains ongoing.
