Red Deer with 296 active COVID-19 cases as of Tuesday

Alberta reported another 872 cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday.

That’s out of 11,006 test results over the past 24 hours for a positivity rate of 7.9 per cent.

There are now 14,785 active cases in Alberta, down 702 from Monday.

The province saw 1,548 recoveries over the past day to bring the total to 82,328.

The number of Albertans hospitalized due to COVID-19 has reached 890, an increase of 12. That includes 153 people in intensive care, an increase of five.

Another 26 deaths from COVID-19 were reported on Tuesday to bring Alberta’s total to 1,028.

In Red Deer, the number of active cases as of Tuesday sits at 296, five more than Monday. There have been 1,113 recoveries, an increase of 28, as the total number of COVID-19 cases attributed to the city rose by 33 to 1,413.

The number of deaths in Red Deer from COVID-19 remains at four.

Red Deer County has 85 active cases of COVID-19 as of Tuesday, an increase of one, while Sylvan Lake has 31, an increase of six.

There are 23 active cases in Clearwater County (Rocky Mountain House), a decrease of six.

Lacombe County has 46 active cases, an increase of one, and the city of Lacombe has 29, unchanged from Monday.

Ponoka County saw its active case count go from 463 on Monday to 482 on Tuesday, an increase of 19.

Mountain View County has 30 active cases, Olds has 28 and Kneehill County has 13. The County of Stettler has 21 active cases.

The Central Zone as a whole has 1,466 active cases as of Tuesday and 91 hospitalizations, including 11 in intensive care. There have been 39 deaths in the zone from COVID-19, unchanged from Monday.

Premier Jason Kenney said Tuesday he’s hoping to avoid a repeat of the sharp rise in cases Alberta saw following Thanksgiving.

“I am concerned, to be blunt, about what we might see coming out of Christmas because inevitably there will have been at least some degree of here in Alberta that could affect our numbers that we could see pop up in a couple of weeks,” he said, adding that the same could happen coming out of New Year’s celebrations.
