Fire guts Clearview garage

Fortunately no one was hurt following a garage fire in Red Deer’s Clearview neighbourhood on Tuesday.

Crews were called to Card Crescent shortly before noon and according to Acting Deputy Fire Chief Jon Evans, found flames coming from the back of the detached garage upon their arrival.

“We had a quick knock down and contained the fire to the structure,” says Evans. “It’s undetermined for the source at this point. Nobody was in the structure at the time.”

Evans notes there was no damage to the home or any neighbouring structures.

“It was fast action by the crews as they were able to contain it to the original source of origin,” he points out. “There is a gas line to the structure and two propane tanks that were in there, so crews had to take precautions when they were gaining access.”

“When it comes to structures like this, you’ve got fire hazards, hazardous materials – make sure they’re stored properly,” adds Eavans. “You know, plugged-in space heaters, anything like that and proper wiring when it comes to accessories that are plugged in.”

Evans anticipates investigators to remain on scene for the bulk of the afternoon.
