Health foundation raises $250,000 for Rocky Health Centre

Local generosity continues and is highlighted by recent upgrades to the Rocky Mountain House Health Centre’s operating room funded through the Rocky and Area Health Foundation and community members.

In September of last year, Board member and Treasurer Dale Shippelt said they had an aggressive target of raising $250,000 as part of their Operation Healthy Hospital Campaign.

The foundation was happy to report that they have reached that goal for OR upgrades and the maternity and endoscopy programs at the centre.

Most recently at a cost of $37,368, new operating room lights have been purchased and installed, funded by the Rocky Mountain and Area Health Services Foundation. As well as an adjustable medical-instrument stand with trays and laparoscopic instruments.

This latest upgrade was made possible from many donations, including an anonymous gift from a patient whose cancer had been diagnosed and surgically removed at the centre.

“This new equipment is the latest in technology and will provide high-quality support to our surgeons at the Rocky Mountain House Health Centre,” noted site manager Shirley Hope. “Having access to equipment like the laparoscopic instruments will also allow us to improve the patient experience by performing procedures through smaller incisions, which minimizes the discomfort to our patients and accelerates their recovery process.”

Foundation Chair Phyllis Loewen described how humbled she was of the achievements with the fundraising campaigns, and that each one enhances the care and procedures patients receive close to home.
