Preliminary hearings set for pair charged in central Alberta shooting

A preliminary hearing will take place early next year for a Red Deer man charged in a shooting northeast of Didsbury last winter.

Lyle Robert Walter Vance, 28, faces 10 counts, including unlawfully wounding, maiming, disfiguring or endangering a life in the March 20, 2020 incident.

That’s when Olds RCMP attended a property near Township Road 320 and Range Road 290 in Mountain View County and discovered a 47-year-old man from Olds suffering from a gunshot wound.

The victim was taken to hospital by STARS with what were later determined to be non-life threatening injuries. Mounties believe the incident was targeted and isolated.

The investigation revealed that two men and one woman attended the property in a gold coloured SUV, where the victim and two other residents were present at the time.

Police say the discussion over money and belongings then became heated with one of the males from the SUV shooting the victim with a handgun.

It’s alleged the shooter then fired additional shots at the other male resident on the property but did not strike him.

The female suspect was later identified as 33-year-old Jessica McClintock – last known to reside in Calgary. McClintock is charged with one count of unlawfully wounding, maiming, disfiguring or endangering a life, as well as two counts of discharging a firearm with intent to endanger life.

McClintock will have a preliminary hearing in Calgary next April to see if her case has enough evidence to go to trial.

Vance’s preliminary hearing to determine if his case has enough evidence to go to trial is also scheduled to take place in Calgary, from Feb. 9-12, 2021.

The third suspect has yet to be identified.
