More than 100 ICU admissions provincially, Red Deer surpasses 300 active cases

Alberta had another record-breaking day on Saturday with 1,879 new cases of COVID-19.

The previous record was set on Dec. 3 with 1,854 cases, and Friday saw 1,828. There are now 18,806 province-wide.

Red Deer also jumped from 283 and past a new milestone on Saturday to 304 active cases. The city recorded 37 new cases and 15 more recoveries in the last 24 hours.

Alberta also recorded six new deaths on Saturday bringing the nine-month total to 596.

There are 563 people in hospital (+30) and 101 in ICU (+2), marking the first time intensive care admissions have surpassed the century mark.

In the past day, there were 21,144 tests done for a positivity rate of 8.9 per cent.

Central Zone Schools with COVID-19

There were several new cases of COVID-19 identified within school communities around central Alberta this week.

-Ecole Secondaire Lacombe Composite High is reporting two or more new cases, bringing its to date total to nine. It is on outbreak status, meaning 2-4 cases (Dec. 1).

-West Central High School in Rocky Mountain House is reporting two or more cases and an outbreak has been declared.

-Annie L. Gaetz Elementary is reporting one new case (Dec. 1).

-Hunting Hills High School in Red Deer is reporting one new case, its 11th on file. It remains on watch status (Dec. 3).

-Ecole Barrie Wilson in Red Deer is reporting an outbreak of two or more cases (Dec. 3).

-Our Lady of the Rosary in Sylvan Lake is reporting one case (Dec. 4).

-St. Francis of Assisi in Red Deer is reporting an outbreak of 2-4 cases (Dec. 4).

-Pioneer Middle School in Rocky Mountain House is reporting an outbreak of 2-4 cases (Dec. 4).

-Normandeau School in Red Deer is confirming three new cases, pushing the school of 450’s total to eight in the last week (Dec. 4).

-Tofield School is reporting one new case.

-Wm. E. Hay Stettler Secondary Campus has one new case and the individual may have been in the school while contagious on Nov. 26 and 27 (Dec. 5)
