Dr. Hinshaw shares COVID-19 update for Dec. 4

Dec 4, 2020 | 3:20 PM

Alberta’s chief medical officer of health is set to provide her latest update on the COVID-19 situation in the province.

Dr. Deena Hinshaw will speak during a news conference scheduled for 3:30 p.m. You can watch the news conference below once it begins.

Premier Jason Kenney said tougher health restrictions likely aimed at Calgary and Edmonton are coming if the current round of rules don’t bend the curve on COVID-19.

Kenney said it’s critical to focus on large urban hot spots rather than remote areas with few cases.

He made the comments during a Facebook town hall meeting Thursday night.

Kenney’s government put in new rules on businesses and public gatherings last week and will review them in two weeks.

Meanwhile, Dr. Hinshaw said Thursday she is concerned about the rise in infections in rural Alberta.

Just under one third of all active cases are outside the big cities of Edmonton, Calgary, Lethbridge and Red Deer.

Hinshaw says even a single case of COVID-19 can spread like wildfire and that it is an Alberta-wide concern.
