Preliminary hearing scheduled for O’Chiese murder suspect

A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for a man charged in relation to a death earlier this year on the O’Chiese First Nation.

Rocky Mountain House RCMP said it was just after 8 p.m. on Aug. 27 when they received a 911 call about a firearms incident that had injured a male.

The victim, 23-year-old Troy Beaverbones, from O’Chiese was airlifted by STARS, but later died in hospital.

Lyle Bearspaw, 27, was arrested later that night and charged with second-degree murder. He also faces counts of break and enter, fail to appear, and breach of probation.

The preliminary hearing, which will determine whether enough evidence is present for the case to go to trial, will take place April 29, 2021 in Rocky Mountain House provincial court.
