Fire destroys garage in Anders

A detached garage went up in flames in Red Deer’s Anders area Friday morning.

Red Deer Emergency Services responded to a 911 call from home on Asmundsen Avenue at 8:17 a.m.

“The garage was fully involved, and it’s a complete write-off, but there was no damage to the home itself,” says Curtis Schaefer, assistant deputy chief. “There was a vehicle in the garage, but we haven’t been able to confirm if that was the cause of any explosions or not.”

Schaefer says the owner of the home, who was there when the fire broke out, called it in. No one was hurt, and one home to the south was evacuated for precautionary reasons.

The homeowner has not been displaced from his residence, Schaefer notes.

The fire was knocked down by about 9 a.m., and response involved three engines, a ladder, command vehicle and an ambulance.

Schaefer said Friday afternoon the cause remains undetermined, but that it is not suspicious.
