Gasoline Alley Farmers’ Market soft opening a success

Nov 26, 2020 | 1:42 PM

The soft opening of the Gasoline Alley Farmers’ Market last weekend is being dubbed a success.

General manager Shauna Fisher says they are very happy with the response and support from the community.

“We are not surprised with the response,” says Fisher. “We received a lot of thank you’s from the community.”

Fisher says they heard feedback such as, “Long time coming, Red Deer needed this, Happy that you are here!”

With increasing concerns around COVID-19 in the region, Fisher is reminding market patrons to be patient while shopping.

“We will be at a lower capacity this coming weekend,” explains Fisher. “Without their (the community’s) support, we would not be able to offer them local products. We look forward to serving everyone for years to come!”

She notes that they are asking everyone that comes to the market, to sanitize their hands and wear a mask.

“We have markers on the floor for directional walking and we are asking the public to be aware of physical distancing,” she points out. “The vendors were wearing PPE and they had sanitizer at each vendor booth. We had 50 vendors over the weekend.”

Effective Nov. 27, most retail businesses in Alberta may remain open with capacity limited to 25 per cent of the occupancy set out under the Alberta Fire Code.

This includes provincially approved farmers’ markets.

The Gasoline Alley Farmers’ Market is located at the intersection of Lantern Street and Laura Avenue.

It’s open Saturdays and Sundays from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
