Town council highlights: Nov. 17

Below are some of the highlights from the Nov. 17 meeting of Rocky Mountain House town council.

Regional Governance Study consultant selected

The Regional Steering Committee has selected Nichols Applied Management to conduct the Regional Governance Study. The committee, made up of representatives from Town, Clearwater County and the Village of Caroline, will oversee the consultant-led study into intermunicipal and regional governance options for the area.

Delegation: Rocky Mountain House Public Library

Council welcomed a delegation from the Rocky Mountain House Public Library, who provided an update on the library’s programming successes and challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic. Library manager Ben Worth and Board Chair Robin Begin also presented the library’s proposed 2021 budget, with a zero per cent increase over 2020. Council accepted the report as information and approved the 2021 budget request.

Delegation: Rocky Flying Club

Council welcomed a delegation from the Rocky Flying Club, who expressed support for the Rocky Mountain House Airport as a valuable asset to the region, and shared some ideas for better promoting the airport among the provincial and national aviation community.

Rocky Mountain House Airport Commission meetings suspended

Council has postponed Airport Commission meetings while the Airport Agreement is under negotiation between the Town and Clearwater County. As managing partner, the Town of Rocky Mountain House is responsible for the daily operation of the jointly-owned airport.

Clearwater Regional Fire Rescue Services fleet replacement schedule

Council reviewed the fleet replacement schedule and related policies for Clearwater Regional Fire Rescue Services command units. Council will ask the Intermunicipal Collaboration Committee to review the fleet replacement schedule and compare provincial best practices in advance of the 2022 budgeting process next fall.
