Red Deer rental rates edge lower in October

Red Deer continues to have some of the lowest rental rates in Canada.

According to the latest National Rent Report, Red Deer finished 34th on the list of 35 Canadian cities surveyed, with an average monthly rent for a one-bedroom unit in October at $911 per month – down 1.5 per cent from September and 5.6 per cent from October, 2019.

The average monthly rent for a two-bedroom came in at $1,023 – down 2 per cent from September and 7.6 per cent from October of last year.

Elsewhere in Alberta, Calgary placed 24th on the list, with an average rent of $1,198 per month for a one-bedroom place, and $1,472 for a two-bedroom.

Edmonton placed 28th on the list, with the average rent for a one-bedroom unit at $1,031 per month in October. A two-bedroom rented for an average of $1,282 per month.

Grande Prairie placed 29th on the list, with one-bedrooms renting for an average of $984 per month, while a two bedroom rented for $1,168 in October.

Lethbridge placed 32nd on the list, with one-bedrooms renting for an average of $949 per month. Two bedrooms rented for an average of $1,104 in October.

Year over year, the average rent for all property types listed on Rentals.ca in the country is still down by 8.1 per cent in October.

However, officials note an uptick recorded in the average rent for all Canadian properties at 0.7 per cent month over month to $1,782, after four months of almost no change.
