Alberta expected to announce stricter COVID-19 measures

Nov 12, 2020 | 12:09 PM

Alberta Premier Jason Kenney will be joining Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw for today’s update on the COVID-19 situation in the province.

This comes amid multiple reports that the province is holding “high-level meetings” to consider stricter measures aimed at curbing the spread of the novel coronavirus.

Today’s news conference is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. (You can watch it here once it begins.)

Hinshaw said during her last in-person update on Monday that conversations were underway to consider further restrictions, but did not announce any final decisions.

The province reported 672 new cases of the illness yesterday.

Seven more people have died for a total of 383 since the pandemic started last spring. Four of the most recent fatalities are linked to COVID-19 outbreaks in hospitals or long-term care homes.

Alberta Health says there are 217 people with COVID-19 in hospital and 46 of those patients are in intensive care units.

The latest available numbers show Red Deer with 91 active cases of COVID-19 as of Tuesday.
