Case put over to December for anti-racism activist facing assault charge

Nov 10, 2020 | 12:35 PM

Small groups of protesters with opposing viewpoints gathered outside the Red Deer Courthouse Tuesday morning to voice their concerns over incidents that took place during an anti-racism event held in Red Deer this summer.

The demonstration hosted at Rotary Recreation Park on Sept. 20 also drew the attention of counter-protesters, which led to several altercations and RCMP eventually laying charges against two individuals.

Taylor Michelle McNallie, 29, a prominent anti-racism activist from Calgary, is charged with assault with a weapon. She did not appear in person in Red Deer provincial court Tuesday morning. Her case was put over to Dec. 1.

Trevor Lyle Roy, 42, of Penhold, is charged with two counts of assault in relation to the incidents of Sept. 20. He is due to appear in court Nov. 17.
