Local dealerships team up to support students in need

Nov 4, 2020 | 2:54 PM

It’s been tough times for many, especially over the last eight months, but three local automotive dealerships are committed to making a huge impact on the community with their donations to multiple charities.

One of the recipients was The Foundation for Red Deer Public Schools’ Step Up program.

Southside Dodge Chrysler, Kipp Scott GMC Cadillac Buick and Gary Moe Auto Group came together and donated $2,500 to the Step Up program in a show of collaboration and community spirit.

“During these unprecedented times, we empathize with the demand placed on the educational system and the hardships that many are faced with,” the dealers have said. “In the automotive reference, a ‘well-oiled machine’ is built from many moving parts operating as one. Our hope is this gesture demonstrates that idea with the dedication from our locally owned businesses.”

The Step Up Fund focuses on reducing barriers, so students can focus on learning. The program supports basic needs for students who are most in need. These are needs like food, clothing, medical needs and transportation – all of which have real and significant impacts on students staying in school and staying engaged in their learning.

“We are grateful for this generous donation from our local dealerships. It’s tough to learn when all you can think about is food or basic necessities,” said Bruce Buruma, Executive Director of the Foundation for Red Deer Public Schools. “Our community knows that kids today don’t always have their needs met for various reasons. Food is only one of the basic needs students are missing. Step Up ensures students have warm winter clothing, needed medication and transportation to get to and from school. With these needs met, students arrive at school ready to learn and achieve.”
