In an effort to help those struggling in the community, Burden Bearers Counselling Centre has teamed up with the Âsokêwin Friendship Centre to offer free counselling every Tuesday.

Âsokêwin Friendship Centre’s Executive Director Kirby Bigchild noted that they will be also working with FCSS so they can help get people connected to other community organizations.

Anyone seeking assistance with addiction, abuse, conflicts, anger, anxiety, depression, insecurities or other issues need only call either Bigchild at 403-429-1102 or Mari Lee at 403-804-8589.

“Call to book an appointment and tell us what you would like to talk about and the Burden Bearers Counseling Centre will send over the staff based on the clientele,” Bigchild said of how the program will work.

He also clarified that this is available to anybody and everybody and are currently set up to help roughly 5 people a day.

October 27 was their first day of offering the free counselling session and had already helped three people.

“There is no set end date, we will continue to offer the free service for as long as people need it.”

The Friendship Centre has also teamed up with McMan to offer Men in Rocky and the surrounding area a group called Four Elements Men’s Group that focuses on their mental and physical wellbeing.

They get together every Wednesday to meet at Crimson Lake.

“It gives men a chance to just talk, we cook, we eat, and we’re outside its great. We have the air, the water, the fire, and mother earth,” is how Bigchild described the gathering. “We have all walks of life, many different races and different backgrounds from different professional groups.”

If that wasn’t enough, they are also teaming up with Inspiring Virtues to create a similar support group, for women.

That new program is set to have its first meet up November 5 at the Âsokêwin Friendship Centre.
