Red Deer with 38 active COVID-19 cases as of Thursday

Red Deer has added seven more cases of COVID-19 over the past 24 hours, and the number of active cases in the city has increased by four.

Thursday’s online update from the province shows Red Deer has now had 185 cases of the virus, and that there are 38 cases currently active.

Red Deer has recorded 147 recoveries from COVID-19, an increase of three from Wednesday.

Alberta confirmed another 477 cases on Thursday.

The total number of COVID-19 cases across the province 27,042. There are 4,921 active cases, up 128 from Wednesday, and 21,803 recovered cases, up 344.

There are currently 130 Albertans in hospital, 18 in ICU. There have been 318 deaths, up five from Wednesday.

The province conducted 12,153 tests in the past 24 hours.

Red Deer County has nine active cases as of Thursday, an increase of one, while Sylvan Lake held steady with one.

Lacombe County is down two to five active cases whereas the city of Lacombe remains with two.

Rocky Mountain House has added another active case of COVID-19 for a total of five. That’s two more than the three recoveries from the virus Rocky has recorded.

Ponoka County, which remains under a provincial COVID-19 watch, has 46 active cases as of Thursday, a decrease of one. The majority of the county’s cases are in Mackwacis, where schools are closed for a third straight week to help prevent further spread of the virus. According to the Maskwacis Education Schools Commission, no cases have been reported at any of their 11 schools.

Elsewhere, Mountain View County has one active case and Kneehill County has six, both marking an increase of one. The town of Olds and County of Stettler have no active cases of COVID-19 as of Thursday.

The Central Zone as a whole has 162 active cases as of Thursday, and one person is in hospital because of the virus.

Routine maintenance will be done to the province’s COVID-19 reporting site over the weekend, meaning there will be no data update until Tuesday when Dr. Deena Hinshaw provides her next live update.
