AJHL Regular Season to begin Nov. 13

Oct 29, 2020 | 3:14 PM

It’s officially ‘game on’ for the Alberta Junior Hockey League.

The AJHL Board of Governors has approved Friday, November 13 as the start date for the league’s 2020-21 Regular Season.

Teams will play within a divisional format composed of a South Division and a North Division. The league says a decision on the Annual AJHL Showcase, season end date, and playoff format will be announced at a later date.

The AJHL says it is operating under the Government of Alberta’s Junior, Collegiate and University League Guidance, developed to support leagues in returning to play and reducing the risk of transmission of COVID-19.

League official say the AJHL Regular Season protocols are in alignment with Hockey Canada’s Return to Hockey Safety Guidelines and Hockey Alberta’s Return to Hockey Plan in focusing on the safety and wellbeing of all participants and spectators.

Arena capacity limits, social distancing protocols within the facility, and the ticket sales process will be dictated by the regulations within each community and the respective team. No League Passes will be accepted for entry, including all AJHL and CJHL accreditation, until facility capacity limits are significantly increased.

After playing the Calgary Canucks in their initial series of cohort exhibition games, the Olds Grizzlys have exhibition games this weekend versus the Okotoks Oilers, Friday in Okotoks and Saturday in Olds. Both games are slated for 7 p.m.

The Drayton Valley Thunder are in Brooks this weekend for a pair of exhibition games versus the Bandits.

The Blackfalds Bulldogs, who will be joining the AJHL for the 2021-22 season, will be unveiling their brand new jerseys on Friday.
